The First World Traditional Wushu Festival 2004 - ZhengZhou,China
The First World Wushu Festival, organized by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) and the Chinese Wushu Association was held in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province in central China. The first and biggest of its kind, this international festival which took place from 16 october 2004 to 21 October 2004 saw 152 delegations with around 2,500 contenders from 62 countries, competing in four different categories.
Lam Family Hung Gar schools were invited to take part in this big event to represent their family style and the city of Hong Kong SAR. Altogether there were two seperate teams representing the Lam Family Hung Kuen in this 5 day event under the names Lam Cho Hung Gar School and Lam Chun Fai Hung Gar school. The team for Lam Cho Hung Gar school consisted of Grandmaster Lam Chun Sing and 10 more from countries such, England, Czech Republic and of course Hong Kong. The team for Lam Chun Fai Hung Gar School consisted of Grandmaster Lam himself along with 10 of his students and grand students from number of different countries including USA, Germany, Italy, Canada, Czech Republic and France. As well as these two teams, Grandmasters Lam Cho's 6th son Lam Chan Chung also took part in this festival as one of the team leaders and representitives for the Hong Kong Wushu Unions "A Team".
Representing their family style of Hung Kuen, the two Lam Family teams competed in 18 individual events and two dual events. Competing against more than 2,500 contenders, each and every single member of the both teams won a medal in their category, bringing back home 18 Gold medals, 21 Silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Overall, The First World Wushu Festival was a great success for the Lam Family Hung Kuen teams as well as the style of Hung Gar.
